bbphone Iphone App Review

I was recently given the opportunity to review the bbphone iPhone app and I have to say...it is really cool! Even at just 5 months, this app kept my Lilly entertained and when she would get a bit grumpy, this app helped grab her attention and calm her down...and I am willing to bet that this would definitely keep your toddler entertained as well!

So what does it do? This app acts as a play phone on your iPhone or iPod Touch. There are 4 different functions. You can set it as a phone and the numbers beep like they do when you touch the keys. You can also set the phone to animal or horns. When it is set to animals, when you push the keys, you will hear different animal sounds and the animal that is associated with that sound appears at the top of the phone screen. My daughter REALLY loved the horns. When you set the app to horns, the keys make different honking noises (car, truck, and train whistle).

Another great feature for this app is the songs the keys play; if you hold down the pound key, a list of songs come up, you choose your song and the keys move and play your song! There are 16 different classic songs to choose from.

The other cool feature on this app and probably my favorite as well as Lilly's is the ability to "break" the keys; if you shake your iPhone or iPod touch, the keys break and roll all over the screen. You then have to put the keys back into their correct position (a great way to help your kids learn numbers in a fun way!)

Of all the baby apps I have downloaded onto my phone, this is actually my favorite. Many of the "lite" or free versions of baby apps are so limited and don't provide a lot of variety, yet the full versions are not inexpensive in terms of app costs (most can be purchased for $3.99 or $4.99)

This bbphone app can be downloaded for just $0.99. I definitely think this app is worth 99 cents and actually, I would jump on the chance to purchase it at this price before it becomes popular and the price increases!

You can find more information about this application at the following website: http://www.jcquan.com/iPhone/Framework/Pages/phoneApps/bbPhone.html

I received this app in order to do a honest review. All opinions are solely my own. Others may have different opinions. I did not receive monetary compensation for writing this review. Many thanks to Jeff Quan and bbphone for letting me do a review of this application!

Closet Dividers Review and Giveaway!---CLOSED---

Winner is Comment 70: Anastasia

When I was pregnant with Lilly....well, actually WELL before I was pregnant with Lilly, I was ogling baby items and imagining the perfect nursery with all the little odds and ends to really create a cute AND organized room. Since getting pregnant was not easy for the hubby and I, I had a little more than 2 years to dream up that perfect room. One of the things I knew I wanted was closet dividers to organize her clothes by sizes; I can't imagine going into a baby closet filled with clothes and trying to figure out where her current size is...I knew the dividers would help me keep her clothes organized and allow me to get things done more quickly..the faster I can grab the clothes, that's just one more second I have to do something else...like maybe, put my oatmeal in the microwave so that I can eat one handed while nursing...every second counts!

I finally found the perfect closet dividers at Potato Patch on Etsy. They were exactly what I was looking for...cute and practical. What I love most about these dividers is that they go around the entire pole...you don't tie them onto the pole and let them hang like many other closet dividers....when they hang by ribbon or string, they often times can get lost in the clothes; these dividers are sturdy and I can see the sizes well even with all the clothes bunched together in the closet.

I have to say that I also fell in love with the designs of the closet organizers...she has the simple and modern style dividers that are just so fresh and clean looking and she also has fun, themed type organizers.

I am SO SO SO glad that I bought these for Lilly's closet...they have totally helped keep me that more sane when time seems like it is slipping away and I don't have even have yet a second to go through her closet to find an outfit....simply...they have made my mommy life, just a little bit more less complicated.

I definitely give this product 5 out of 5 giggles!

Now onto the giveaway!

Potato Patch on Etsy is sponsoring a giveaway and one lucky "Mommy Saves Money" reader will win closet dividers with their choice of design!

Carbon Monoxide Alarm Giveaway

Next week is "Poison Prevention Week" and Kidde contacted me to allow my readers to learn more about the dangers of carbon monoxide and give details on how to enter a giveaway for a carbon monoxide detector; this giveaway is hosted through Kidde, not Mommy Saves Money.

Kidde has developed an entire PR campaign around fire and carbon monoxide safety because it is not something not people often think of but it is very important that they do! I actually am a little obsessive about the prevention of carbon monoxide poisoning as I have 4 smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in my little home...probably more than we need but I'd rather be safe than sorry...carbon monoxide is a scary thing as it is colorless and odorless. According to Kiddie, carbon monoxide poisoning is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America...and another scary thought..the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are similar to those of the flu (headache, nausea, fatigue, etc.), so people don't even realize they are being poisoned.

Kiddie is determined to spread the word on the dangers of carbon monoxide and so they are running a promotion on their Facebook page...they are giving away 50 FREE carbon monoxide alarms!

To enter this giveaway:

1. Become a fan of Kidde's at www.facebook.com/Kidde
2. Invite 3 of your friends to also become a fan of Kidde's Facebook page.
3. Have those 3 friends send Kidde a direct message on Facebook, telling us to who sent them.
4. We will send the person in those three emails a FREE Kidde carbon monoxide alarm!--No charge for shipping! (Limit one CO alarm per "fan," and remember, they only have 50 to giveaway!)

For more information on the baby safety campaign, please visit www.safehomesafebaby.com.

Print Books for Free!

I came across this SUPER SUPER cool site, Children's Books Forever...you can download and print children's books for free! We read to Lilly every night and we actually have a really large collection of books (not a whole lot of place to put them or store them but that's another story!) but we are always looking for new books to read and let's face it, books aren't cheap! I am absolutely in love with this site...I love that I can print these books for FREE!...if it is a book that we end up really, really loving, I have been laminating the pages and then run them over to kinkos to have them bind it into a nice book! If you get a chance, I would definitely check out this site...I am in LOVE!

Boogie Wipes Review and Giveaway-- CLOSED

CLOSED: Winner is AppleMomma! Congratulations!

I was lucky enough to be sent some samples from the mompreneurs of Boogie Wipes and they came at the perfect time; cold and flu season is really strong this year and with my husband being a teacher and being exposed to hundreds of snotty, sticky hands every day, no matter how much he tries to stay germ free, he is sure enough to bring something home. Unfortunately, Lilly caught a cold and was stuffy and crusty around the nose....I figured saline drops and a little bulb syringe should do the trick, well, she HATES saline drops with a passion and the bulb syringe, well, she is likely to get violent with her arms and legs as soon as she sees that thing!...even at 4 months old, she knows what she doesn't like and will let you know!

Sometimes I would just bare down and just do the saline drops and bulb syringe because it needed to be done but really, she hated it and I hated doing it because she hates it so much....A couple days into her cold, the boogie wipes arrived at my door step...the mailman so nicely POUNDED on the door to let me know they were here (while Lilly was napping of course!). Anyhow...when she woke up from her nap, I thought, we'd give these a shot...she usually doesn't let me get anywhere near her nose (unless we are in the tub...for some reason, it is okay to clean her nose a bit when we are in there!...go figure!)....I figured, she couldn't hate them anymore than she does the bulb syringe and saline drops!

I took the boogie wipe out of the package (and oh my goodness, did it smell delicious!...i'll go over all the smells later!), and it is a good sized wipe...not too big and not too small. I did a real quick sweep on her nose just to see if she was going to scream her little head off and she didn't...so I went back in for a more "detailed clean" and got all the crusties and boogies....guess, what? She didn't mind it at all! I'm not sure if it is because of the smell of the wipes or because they are so soft and soothing due to the vitamin E, chamomile and aloe....all I know, is she didn't hate it and I could get her nose all cleaned up and keep her from getting that dry, chapped nose!

I like these so much better than using a baby wipe because first, they smell delicious! They come in three scents: magic menthol scent, great grape scent and fresh scent. My favorite scent is the fresh scent....it smells so clean and just has this pure aroma too it...it's really hard to explain. My husbands favorite scent was great grape...it takes him back to his childhood days filled with grape kool-aid and purple otter pops (Alexander the Grape Otter Pops to be exact, he says!). Magic Menthol wasn't our favorite smell but it doesn't smell bad and it reminds us both of things you use when you are trying to feel better, because of the strong potency that menthol has...I feel like if I just sniff the wipe that my nose feels cleaner! Lilly seemed to like all the scents...no favorites yet but I'm sure when she is older, she'll choose a favorite!

We also love using these wipes for her nose rather than baby wipes because they are alcohol free, hypoallergenic, and they moisturize with vitamin E, Chamomile and aloe while having a unique formula that dissolves mucus.

Now...I began thinking and became a little curious how these would feel on my nose...so, I'm not gonna lie...I tried them and so did my husband...we both LOVE them! You can really feel the moisturizer in them and it leaves you feeling so fresh and clean...and the menthol scent really leaves you feeling like you can breathe a little easier...like it really opens up your airways. I gotta say, I have retired my Kleenex and am now a full time boogie wipes user...who says there only for kids!

I definitely give this product 5 out of 5 giggles!

Now onto the giveaway!

The lovely momprenuers of Boogie Wipes are sponsoring a giveaway and one lucky "Mommy Saves Money" reader will win 2 packs of 30-count wipes (fresh, grape, menthol..your choice!).

A Newbs Perspective on Cloth Diapers

The hubby and I have decided to make the switch to cloth diapers. Why? Well, honestly, it is mostly to save money...yes, it is good for the environment too but we decided to make the switch because of the outrageous amount of money we were spending on diapers...it was insane!....So now we are in cloth...but you better believe I will still be on the hunt for huggies and pampers codes!

Anyhow...Aaron and I wanted something simple....prefolds were far too intimidating...we wanted something that was nearly exactly like a disposable...we tried two different kinds of cloth diapers: BumGenius 3.0 one size pocket diapers and Fuzzibunz one size pocket diapers.

Aaron and I like both brands and love that they are very similar to disposables but we do prefer the bumgenius. Why? We prefer the bumgenius diapers because you fasten them with velcro not buttons. See here...

This is almost IDENTICAL to a disposable diaper....I open it up like a regular sposie, and put it on exactly like I would a disposable...the only difference is taking it off and not throwing it away. When we take it off, I shake out (into the diaper pail) or pull out the inserts inside the pocket...then we put all of that (plus the cloth wipes) into the diaper pail with our awesome stink free planet wise pail liner wet bag! So what's a wet bag? Basically, when it is time to launder the diapers, I pull out the wet bag full of diapers and take it to the washer....I open up the bag and push out all of the diapers into the washer by flipping the bag inside out (NEVER touching any of the dirty diapers)...once it is empty...I throw the wet bag into the washer with the diapers and start the wash!

Drying is a cinch too! Since they are pocket diapers, they dry super quick...I hang them out on a clothesline to dry and so they get some sun to get rid of any stains...the sun is like some type of magic, I tell ya! Oh and this is totally silly but seeing all those little cute cloth diapers hanging on the clothesline makes me smile...it is so CUTE! Once they are all dry, I bring them in...put the inserts into each diaper and stash them in their baskets so they are ready to use! Easy Peasy!

The other really cool thing about the BumGenius 3.0 one size diaper is the covered insert...apparently, in older generations of the diaper, some people were having issues with leaking at the top of the diapers because the insert wasn't covered...well now, they designed a covered insert opening that keeps the baby dry.

Oh and if you are wondering how this works as one size, there are little 3x3 snaps that you can adjust the size of the diaper...so you can set the diaper at a small, medium or large setting....Lilly is just over 13 pounds (13lbs 2oz) and she is at the smallest setting and it fits her great!

Though we do prefer the BumGenius and it is honestly because we wanted something incredibly simple (like the velcro fasteners), we do still like the fuzzibunz one size. The fuzzibunz one size has snaps rather than velcro...that is the ONLY reason I prefer the BumGenius to Fuzzibunz, otherwise both are freaking awesome. The snaps are not difficult to use at all but I just find it easier (especially late at night when I am half asleep) to fasten velcro rather than trying to line up snaps.

One thing I LOVE LOVE LOVE about the fuzzibunz is the adjustable elastic in the legs and waist...it really allows for you to adjust the diaper to a perfect fit. The legs adjust the length of the diaper to 8+ settings and in the waist up to 4+ settings. I have to say, if fuzzibunz had a one size diaper that had velcro fasteners rather than snaps, I would prefer this diaper over the bumgenius...both provide a great fit but I really love how much adjusting you can do with this diaper....If your baby has a skinny tummy and chunky thighs, you can adjust for that.

One thing, for us, both the fuzzibunz and bumgenius give Lilly quite the fluffy bum...she is a pretty heavy wetter and so we use both inserts for every diaper...even during the day. She doesn't seem to mind though and she is super cute with her fluffy bum!

Personally, I think BumGenius and Fuzzibunz should work together to create an ultimate product for us mommy's and daddy's who want something super simple....let's have the velcro fasteners, adjustable leg and waist elastic and the covered insert protection! That would be the ultimate diaper in this mommy's opinion!

If you are thinking about making the switch to cloth diapers, I really wouldn't hesitate...jump on it...it really isn't as difficult as it seems and you'll be saving so much money too. If you still aren't sure, Jillians Drawers has a great program where you can try cloth diapering for just $10. Click HERE to read more about the program!

Now, I am just on the lookout for the perfect cloth wipes!

Blurb

I use blurb to "slurp" all my blogs into books and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the quality of them...So far, I have a blurb book for my United States Road Trip, wedding, pregnancy and I am working on the one for Lilly's first year (she is only 4 months so I have some time!). Anyhow..the qaulity is amazing and the price is great...I had previously used Shutterfly for these but they had less wording from my blogs and the cost was much, much more. Anyhow...a friend found a coupon code for blurb and these are not available very often so I'd jump at the chance to order a book and save some more money! The coupon code is: FLICKR10 for $10 off your book!
